The exciting Mixtura project was started in 2019 by Gutier Seijo Otero, ex technical director of Dominio do Bibei, with the aim of reviving special vineyards and native varieties along the Mino river. Given the river crosses the border between Spain and Portugal, the wine is labelled as a Vino de Mesa (table wine). It is anything but. Produced from 55% Treixadura grown in the Ribeiro and 45% Albarino, some grown in Rias Baixas and some in Vinho Verde, the wines are fermented separately in Austrian oak foudre before blending and ageing in concrete tanks. This gives a wine of great complexity with intense fruit (citrus, apple, tropical), creaminess from the oak, aromatics and texture. Spicy, minerally, mouth watering, long - its got the lot. A cracker.
