From the highest rated producer on the English wine scene, Dermot Sugrue was winemaker at Nyetimber and established Wiston Estate before starting his own boutique label.  Dermot's wife, Ana - also a winemaker and ex Plumpton tutor - is now on board and their wines go from strength to strength.

TWD 2019 is the new release of their most popular wine, disgorged in early January 2024 and a blend exactly representative of their vineyards which are planted 60% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir.  The 2019 is from three vineyards - 50% from Mount Harry in East Sussex, 30% from Coldharbour in West Sussex and 20% from Storrington, West Sussex - each adding their own character to the wine.  The aim with all the Sugrue wines is to embrace the acidity that English grapes provide, not hide from it so, across the board, they are crisp, fresh, pure and minerally, each with its own subtle nuances.  TWD shows green apple, lemon and lime on the nose, followed by citrus, baked apple, apricot and pastry on the palate.  It is really precise, pure and fresh with mouth watering acidity and a cleansing mineral edge as well as a wonderful length of finish.  It's good now but will improve further in bottle for some years.  If you haven't tried Sugrue wines yet, what are you waiting for?
