vines around Vrigny since the mid 19th century and Guillaume farms 1.5 hectares of vines, all organically (soon to be certified).  Adopting some biodynamic principles, his two Champagnes are made with minimal intervention, letting the terroir fully express itself.  Les Pres Dieu is produced from two parcels - Les Pres and Les Vignes Dieu - and is a beautiful expression of Chardonnay.  Very elegant loam soils.  Aged for 22 months in French oak, this is a powerful wine with heady aromas and flavours of black forest fruits, cherries, plum, dark chocolate, smoke, vanilla, exotic spice and bay leaf.  But once again, the richness is balanced by a lifted character to the wine which elevates it to another level.  The tannins are silky smooth, acidity is fresh, it has a great mouth feel along with wonderful balance and length.  Drink from now (decant an hour or two) and over the next 10-15 years.  Exceptional and amazing value for such quality (as with all the Capellanes the wine bursts out the glass with notes of mango, papaya, honeydew melon, quince, orange and lemon zest.  The tropical theme continues on the palate along with cream, subtle smoke, fennel and minerals.  Textural and rich but balanced and fresh at the same time, it finishes crisp and long with a flinty dryness.  Top Cabernet Sauvignon, this is a bold wine that manages to be rich, silky and fresh all at the same time.  Packed with ripe blueberries, cherries, blackberry jam, spice, liquorice and herbs, it has it Errazuriz.  Having worked for decades for leading wineries across the Americas (Quintessa, Matetic, Benziger, Paul Hobbs, Errazuriz (naturally)), they established Far Mountain with the belief that the best potential for wine in California lies in remote pockets of the Sonoma Valley mountains.  With this in mind, they found some exceptional old vineyards in the Moon Mountain District AVA and their first release (2019) was internationally acclaimed.  The follow up vintage, this 2020, is potentially better, displaying intense ripe black fruits with savoury and mineral character as well as spice, cedar and toast.  It is incredibly silky on the palate with very refined tannins, juicy acidity and great length.  It has richness of fruit but it's a more restrained Californian Cabernet with the volcanic soils and the altitude adding minerality, texture and freshness to the wine.  Drinking beautifully now, I can see this developing wonderfully in bottle for a decade or two, possibly longer. need any more quality Pinots).  Post a long spell as Head Winemaker at McWilliams, Jim Chatto and his wife, Daisy, settled in Tasmania to concentrate on making world class Pinot Noir.  And this is world class indeed - New World crunchy bright fruit with Old World elegance, finesse and complexity.  Ripe cherries, rhubarb and raspberries sit alongside subtle spice, minerality and rose petals.  It's beautifully weighted and so silky smooth that you have to hold yourself back from gulping it down.  Tiny quantities are made so I make sure that we put some in our personal cellar each year sites.  They have 11 acres of cool climate sites, sometimes buying parcels in but generally focusing on quality over quantity.  We tasted a couple of their wines recently and this Pinot Noir, from the Anderson Valley, is a cracker.  It has plenty of elegant black and red fruit but this is balanced by a nice savouriness along with minerals and a smoky finish.  It's very elegant with fine grained winemaker, Diana Snowden, and her husband Jeremy Seysses (who happens to be the winemaker at Domaine Dujac in Burgundy), split their time between the two vineyards.  The Brothers Cabernet, from a 2 acre block, is not a blockbuster Napa Cabernet, it's far more nuanced than that with more than a nod towards the Old World.  98% Cabernet Sauvignon with 2% Petit Verdot, fully organic, it's a cashmere like wine full of cassis, cherry and damson, with cigar box, subtle sweet spice, espresso and fine toasty oak.  The tannins are silky smooth, acidity is fresh, it's all harmonious and integrated and the finish lasts for well over a minute.  It is outstanding and, whilst not cheap, looks like decent value to me compared to a lot of other Napa quietly achieved cult status amongst lovers of finely crafted Chardonnay, Pinot Noir \u0026amp; Cabernet Sauvignon so we were excited to try them for ourselves.  And this single vineyard Chardonnay, WOW, what a wine.  Produced from the oldest Chardonnay vines in the region, this is a wine that drinks like great Meursault (and you'd be forgiven for making that mistake).  It is so elegant, rich but perfectly poised with subtle layers of fruit - apple, pineapple, peach, lemon - along with a hint of ginger, soft creaminess, minerality and a saline note.  Beautifully balanced, it's a joy to drink They have quietly achieved cult status amongst lovers of finely crafted Chardonnay, Pinot Noir \u0026amp; Cabernet Sauvignon so we were excited to try them for ourselves. The fruit is sourced from three different sites on their farm (the Dignity vineyard being the oldest planted Cabernet in the region) and all the sites allow for long and slow ripening, adding complexity and concentration.  It's an incredibly fine wine, packed with pure blackcurrant, blackberry and damson fruit, along with bramble, tobacco, graphite and spice.  The tannins are incredibly fine and there's good acidity, suggesting great ageing potential.  It has rich fruit but it's wonderfully balanced with a real elegance to it.  From an area better known for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, time with him) and so, when choosing a wine to pair with our beef the other day, The Kirche seemed like a good idea.  After all, this vintage has just won an International Wine Challenge Trophy (for best Barossa blend) so worth checking out, I thought.  And, wow, what a wine!  I've drunk some sublime wines over the past year but this is as enjoyable and memorable as any of them. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e50% Shiraz, 50% Cabernet Sauvignon from old Barossa vines, co-fermented and then aged in French and American oak, as soon as you nose the wine, you know it's going to be great.  It has great aromatics with fresh morello cherry, blackberry, plum and blueberry, plus hints of spice and toast.  On the palate it is so silky and plush that you can't wait to take another sip, revealing that pure ripe fruit (naturally ripe, not confected) along with subtle notes of tobacco, chocolate, spice, toasty oak and a nice minerally earthiness.  It is full but so fresh and balanced that you don't notice the 14.5% alcohol and the plush tannins and fresh acidity ensure everything is in harmony.  This is a stunner, drinking beautifully now but with the structure to develop for another 5+ years at least.  If you'd told me it was the same price as the Melton Nine Popes (£75 a bottle), I'd have said it's worth every penny.  It's just over half the price of that so quality.  The results are stunning wines across the board, wonderfully elegant and pure, letting the terroir express itself.  This Condrieu is wonderfully aromatic with notes of peach, nectarine and almond along with a subtle creaminess.  Full bodied and opulent on the palate, the wine is perfectly balanced with a refreshing mineral edge.  A rich, lengthy finish just makes you want to dive right saltiness.  Richly textured and layered with lemon curd, apple, roasted almonds, saline and that trademark minerality, it is zippy, balanced and long.  Very complex with different nuances as it opens
