complex yet rounded, silky and balanced at the same time, an iron fist in a velvet glove.  Decant first for an hour or two and you find an array of aromas when you put your nose in the glass - ripe blackberry, plum and blueberry fruit with toasty oak, spice and tobacco.  Certainly very inviting.  Plush in the mouth with different layers of dark berry and cherry fruit along with chocolate, tobacco, five spice and mocha.  The tannins are slightly chewy at this stage but that's not a bad thing and the acidity is good.  The finish lasts an age and reinforces the fact that this is an years.  It's always a crisp Chardonnay when first released with more than a whiff of gun smoke, citrus laden fruit, mouth watering acidity and a mineral streak running through it.  But let it develop in bottle and you start to see more tropical notes coming through along with vanilla and hazelnuts.  The acidity, although still high, becomes more balanced and integrated and everything sits more in harmony.  That's not to say it isn't lovely when first released, it's just from our experience, it's a more complete wine with that bit of time in bottle.  You can age for up to 10 years but I think ripe stone fruit (peach, apricot), citrus, creaminess, mouth watering acidity, wet stones and a saline note.  A bit of nuttiness on the finish too.  It's quite textural on the palate, really long, their wines are stunning across the range - pure, elegant and balanced with huge ageing potential.  And small production, which is why they have become much sought after.  Produced from equal amounts of each grape variety, 2300 bottles were produced of this vintage and it really is a cracker.  The nose is really expressive and inviting with notes of lemon, peach, quince, smoke and aniseed.  The palate is rich but perfectly balanced with lemon peel, baked apple, peach, apricot, honey, cream.... and more each time you take a sip.  And, while rich, this is offset by a lovely structure, crisp apple), almonds, sweet spice and honey, it is wonderfully balanced on the palate with crisp acidity and minerality balancing out the richness.  There is really a lot going on, it changes in the glass as you drink, and it has got a lovely texture in the mouth - from a bit of lees stirring and ageing in old oak barrels.  Long and harmonious, it is drinking beautifully now but gets better and better them.  Whilst they can identify the Tempranillo, Graciano and Carinena, there are some old varieties that they are still unsure of that go into the final blend.  La Estrada is one of their two single vineyard wines and, like their other top wines, they are mightily difficult to get hold of.  We've managed to snaffle a few bottles so if you know the wine and would like some, do not hesitate.  It's Great care and skill are taken in selecting the grape parcels which make up this wine. On the nose there are lovely notes of plum fruit, spice and liquorice which flow into a beautifully smooth palate comprised of flavours of ripened plums and savoury notes. This is an outstanding wine which can be drunk now or cellared for further development. Their winemakers have been tasked with finding something new and innovative that they would like to experiment with – be it a grape variety, a zone or a production technique. The first wine in this series is a Sercialinho from Barraida (a variety we've never tried, apparently only 9ha planted in the world, all in Barraida) and, if this is a taste of things to come, then we're very excited.  We shared a bottle with two wine loving friends and we were all in agreement that this is a stunner.  Hand picked, fermented with wild yeasts in 500 litre oak barrels, no malolactic fermentation as the winemakers wanted to retain vibrancy, a short period of batonnage (stirring of the lees), then 12 months in barrel, total production of this wine is 1900 bottles.  It's not a big, shouty, look at me wine, and it may get overlooked at tastings because it's not.  It's refined and elegant, subtle and nuanced, and takes a while to reveal itself fully so I'm glad we took the time.  It's got a lovely mouthfeel - it is truly exceptional.  \u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e100% fermented in stainless steel with full malolactic fermentation, dosage 9g\/L.  The nose is enticing, laden with notes of citrus, subtle tropical fruit, brioche and apple.  The mouthfeel is wonderful, crisp, silky, pure and fresh with zippy acidity and a finish that probably lasts two minutes.  Beautifully balanced and revealing more of itself as you sip -
