The first wine in this series is a Sercialinho from Barraida (a variety we've never tried, apparently only 9ha planted in the world, all in Barraida) and, if this is a taste of things to come, then we're very excited.  We shared a bottle with two wine loving friends and we were all in agreement that this is a stunner.  Hand picked, fermented with wild yeasts in 500 litre oak barrels, no malolactic fermentation as the winemakers wanted to retain vibrancy, a short period of batonnage (stirring of the lees), then 12 months in barrel, total production of this wine is 1900 bottles.  It's not a big, shouty, look at me wine, and it may get overlooked at tastings because it's not.  It's refined and elegant, subtle and nuanced, and takes a while to reveal itself fully so I'm glad we took the time.  It's got a lovely mouthfeel - very textural - with waxy lemon and peach fruit, creaminess, good acidity, minerals and balance.  Complex and long, it's nuanced in different ways and almost has a quiet confidence about it that says \"I know I'm great, I don't need to shout about it\".  Which sounds weird but sums up the wine for me.  I can't wait to taste it again after a bit more time decent value in some of the lesser communes, and this Saint Romain from David Moret is one such wine (albeit still not cheap).  He is a micro negociant making only white wines in his small cellar in Beaune and purchasing grapes from the top growers in the region.  His Saint Romain is refined and elegant with notes of melon, peach, apple, citrus and almonds.  The toasty oak is well judged and sits in harmony with the fruit, there's bright acidity and a mineral note to the palate, leading to a creamy textured finish.  It's really good Burgundy from a winemaker that's a bit under the radar.  But France.  The vineyards have been owned by the Duffour family since 1955.  Michel Duffour, a passionate winemaker, took over in 1973 with an ethos of quality over quantity, and now his son, Nicolas, is improving things even further.  It's quite simply excellent value for the quality of the wine, hugely over delivering and perfect if you drink crisp whites like Sauvignon Blanc.  Grassy with lemon and lime, pear, pineapple, apple and grapefruit, it's really bright and fresh with zippy acidity and a nice mineral note.  No oak.  A decent length of finish too.  It's not hugely complex but it's not Taste again and you'll find hints of honey, vanilla and sweet spice.  It's complex, long and balanced, really different and, I would guess, loved by sommeliers as a real food wine.  We drank with
