I didn't write a huge tasting note when drinking this as I was so busy enjoying it. I simply wrote "superb Oregon Chardy, lovely balance & minerality, great acidity, toasty but not overtly, really stunning". Which is not a massive amount of information for a wine at this price point. So, here we go.....
Evening Land is a Willamette Valley project co-owned by super sommelier, Raj Parr, and winemaker, Sashi Moorman. They both love elegant European wines so based this, their second joint venture, around a special vineyard (Seven Springs) planted in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA in 1984 by Dominique Lafon. The vineyards are managed biodynamically and planting was terroir driven, matching the Chardonnay vines to specific parts of the vineyard. The grapes for the Summum Chardonnay - their top wine - come from 14 rows along the spine of the vineyard, and this strict selection really delivers in the glass. It's not cheap but is absolutely world class and whilst stunning now, it is built to last.
There are some thoughts from the wine community at Vivino here.
