Jable de Tao is a new project set up in Lanzarote in 2002 by Carmelo Pena Santa, founder of Bien de Altura in Gran Canaria. The vines are 50-200 years old and produce wines of extraordinary concentration with a minerally, volcanic profile (not a surprise given the location) and a marked saline finish. Diego is a rare grape variety native to the region and here it's produced a textural, citrus laden wine with bright stone and tropical fruits, a touch of smoke, minerals, crisp acidity and a creamy finish. Unusual and rare but a wine worth seeking out.
