Mikey Giugni started Scar of the Sea in 2012 making Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and cider with fruit from Santa Maria Valley and the coast of San Luis Obispo.  All the grapes come from growers who practice organic or biodynamic farming and his winemaking technique is very much hands off - wild yeasts, neutral oak barrels, no fining, rarely filtering and only a small amount of SO2.  And the results are pure, seductive, delicious wines.  His Seven Leagues Pinot Noir is a stunner.  Bright raspberry, red cherry, rhubarb and strawberry jumps from the glass, leading into a pure, silky palate with bright fruits, soft sweet spice, minerals and a nice savoury, truffle note.  The acidity is balanced and, whilst light on the palate, there's plenty of depth to the flavours and complexity to keep you coming back for more.  Long and harmonious, we'll be adding more of Mikey's wines to the range soon.
