We've been waiting patiently for this year's allocation to arrive as this is one of the finest wines that we've drunk all year. Chiara Condello is an upcoming star from Emiliana Romagna and Le Lucciole is a tiny production wine (4000 bottles in total) from an organically farmed 1 hectare plot. It really is sensational Sangiovese and you can see why this is fast becoming a cult wine. Lovely notes of cherry, plum and spice lead into a palate that is both silky and fresh but with an underlying structure that tells you this is more than a simple table wine. It drinks superbly when young with that velvety fresh cherry, raspberry and plum fruit sitting in harmony with subtle spice and a hint of toast as well as an underlying mineral edge. It's elegant, long, balanced and delicious now but will age and develop gracefully. So good that I've had to put some in my cellar and I'd suggest you do the same (if it's available).
