Pinot Noir / 13% / sustainable
We've been loving Marbury's Chardonnay and this, their first release of Pinot Noir, is perhaps even more enjoyable. It's almost a cross between a Pinot Noir and a Northern Rhone Syrah given that it has a lovely white pepper note to it and it went down remarkably well with friends recently. With lots of crunchy cherry, strawberry and raspberry fruit, earthy, savoury hints, spice and liquorice - as well as that pepper - it's really moreish, balanced and long. The acidity is fresh and the tannins have a little bit of grip so I think this will soften and develop too. We're all still learning the ageing capabilities of English wines so this is another that we'll follow with interest.
