This is a new project from top vignerons Javier Alen (of Vina Mein fame) and the men behind cult producer Comando G (Daniel Landi and Fernando Garcia). With pedigree like that, it can't go wrong. Based in Ribeiro, in south Galicia, Adega A Barouta cultivate their grapes on very old vines planted in pure granite bedrock. It's a tiny operation (1.7 hectares) and as much a project of love and passion as a commercial venture. As Penas is their top single vineyard white, produced in tiny quantities (just 600 bottles) and set to be a cult wine. Produced in as natural a way as possible to let the terroir express itself, this is a truly stunning wine with pure stone fruit, wild flowers, minerals, bright acidity, texture and a long, long finish.
