Baboso Blanco / 13% / organic
This is a fairly new joint venture between ex Man City footballer, David Silva (a very fine player indeed) and winemaker Jonathan Garcia of Suertes del Marques. When an estate on Gran Canaria came up for sale, planted with 6 hectares of old vines, David asked Jonathan to come on board as winemaker and Bodegas Tameran was born. Located 600-700m above sea level and planted with local varieties on the volcanic soils, the farming is organic and the winemaking very hands off, letting the wines express their terroir. And these wines have been generating huge excitement as they're both different and exceptional. The Baboso Blanco (aka Bastardo Blanco) - new to our portfolio this year - is a native variety thought to be a white mutation of Trousseau Noir. It's the creamiest and richest of the Tameran wines, with the longest ageing potential and is packed with yellow plum, lemons, cream and spice, with smoky volcanic notes. Crisp acidity and a lovely mineral edge balances the richness. This is a stunning wine and I can't wait to see how it develops in bottle.
