This is a fairly new joint venture between ex Man City footballer, David Silva (a very fine player indeed) and winemaker Jonathan Garcia of Suertes del Marques.  When an estate on Gran Canaria came up for sale, planted with 6 hectares of old vines, David asked Jonathan to come on board as winemaker and Bodegas Tameran was born.  And it is fast becoming a cult winery.  Located 600-700m above sea level and planted with local varieties on the volcanic soils, the farming is organic and the winemaking very hands off, letting the wines express their terroir.  These wines have been generating huge excitement as they're both different and exceptional and we've added their Vijariego Blanco to our portfolio this year as it's delicious.  Fresh and crisp with notes of red apple, lemon, lime, grapefruit and some subtle tropical hints, there is also minerality, zippy acidity and a saline twang.  It is textural and aromatic, very moreish and equally delicious on its own as paired with a number of dishes (Asian cuisine is a great match).  You may not have come across the grape variety before but prepare to be very pleasantly surprised.
