From one of England's top producers, based in Essex's Crouch Valley, this is currently the best place in the UK to produce still Pinot Noir.  The mix of the warm microclimate, clay soils and proximity to the River Crouch (which moderates temperatures and prevents harsh frosts) means that the vines thrive here and I can't recall enjoying an English red more than this.  Whilst a little darker than many Pinots, it's packed with cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry notes along with spice and smoke.  Nicely weighted with fine tannins and juicy acidity plus a good length of flavour, it's very impressive indeed and I'm intrigued to see how it will develop over the next years.
