This is another exciting new English project, based in Essex's Crouch Valley which, along with Kit's Coty in Kent, seems to be the place for top quality still wines.  Winemaker Charlie Holland, who ran Gusbourne for a decade, has been the driving force here both in the vineyards and the winery, and the first release is a cracker.  Quite muted at first (don't over chill in the fridge), the wine opens up to reveal white orchard fruit, apple blossom, lemon, pink grapefruit, wet stones and a subtle creaminess.  The acidity is fresh and crisp and there's an oyster shell minerality.  As it evolves in the glass, it shows more richness, but in a very elegant way, with warm spice on the lengthy finish.  Another very well made English wine.
