Montes are one of the larger producers that we deal with (generally we buy from smaller vineyards) but, when you want wines to be both very good and to hit certain price points, then you need quality focused people like Montes.  They're a top producer (see Purple Angel, for example) but they have different ranges for different markets - like Montes Alpha, where all the wines over deliver for the price points.  And sometimes that's what you want from a wine.  This is really well made - full of bright tropical fruit (banana, mango, pineapple), fresh citrus giving it a nice lift, zippy acidity and enough subtle French oak to give a bit of texture, creaminess and toast.  For the money, it's a cracker.
