In our view, this is one of the best sub £20 Chardonnays that you will ever find.  What we call a no brainer.  It's from Patrick Sullivan, who is well known in Australia as one of the country's top producers of Chardonnay, particularly site specific cool climate Chardonnay.  He looks for volcanic soils as this gives the minerality he's looking for in his wines. Whilst he's currently under the radar in the UK, it won't take long for his wines to gain traction given the quality.  And while most of his wines sit in the £60-70 a bottle range, this little beauty gives you a taste of his portfolio at a fraction of the price.  It's brilliant, fresh with a mineral edge but with plenty of toasty, buttery notes, citrus and orchard fruit, hazelnuts and spice.  The purity on a wine at this level is amazing and it drinks like something a lot more expensive.  Exactly the sort of wine that we love discovering given how much it over delivers.
