Racines is an exciting new collaboration between Etienne de Montille (of Burgundy's Domaine de Montille) and his Californian born winemaker, Brian Sieve.  It's a combination of world class vineyards, world class winemaking and world class people which makes this one of California's most exciting ventures.  Their wines all come from Santa Barbara County, from highly coveted sites in the Santa Rita Hills where they get good warmth during the day but coolness at night balances this.  Being only 10km from the Pacific adds freshness to the wines.

Santa Rita Hills is their "estate" Pinot Noir and it shows beautifully pure red and black fruits - black cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry and cranberry - along with savoury notes of sage and tobacco, and a toasty hint.  It's a lovely balance of naturally sweet fruit and mushroom, savoury character that all great Pinot should have.  The acidity is vibrant and balanced, tannins are silky and fine, and the length of finish is superb.  Quite aromatic as well.  Overall, a lovely New World Pinot Noir with an Old World twist - the best of both!
