This wine is part of an exciting new collection conceived by Master Sommeliers Gareth Ferreira (CORE by Clare Smyth) and Ronan Sayburn (Le Manoir, 67 Pall Mall), with the objective of showcasing South Africa's most spectacular terroirs and most distinguished winemakers.  

New to the portfolio this year is the Velour Pinot Noir, made by Gordon Newton Johnson and produced from fruit supplied by Newton Johnson, Storm Wines and Restless River - quite the line up from the Hemel-en-Aarde!!  Like the whites, this is produced in an elegant, fresh style with purity of fruit, bright acidity and minerality all on show.  Very food friendly, albeit delicious on its own, there's bright strawberry and dark cherry fruit here, a hint of smoke and spice, savoury notes and a pleasant earthiness on the finish.  With velvety tannins, good acidity, balance and length, what's not to like?  We've got some brilliant SA Pinot Noirs on our list and this is right up there with the best.
