This is a sensational wine and one which always confuses people when they first taste it. Firstly, there's the colour - a coppery "ramato" colour due to a short skin maceration before fermentation. Then there's the aromas and flavours which are quite unique, especially to a Pinot Grigio. It's an extraordinarily complex wine with notes of pear, apricot, yellow plum, peach, orange peel, yoghurt, pastry and toasted nuts. Such an array of flavours that you keep going back for more. There's richness on the palate but it is balanced with fresh acidity and subtly creamy oak, and the length of finish is impressive. It's Pinot Grigio, Jim, but not as we know it (i.e. it's miles better).
