Jean-Marie Guffens-Heynen is a natural winemaker who is showing that you can make world class wines in the Maconnais, a region better known for its decent value wines. This wine, from a single vineyard in the village of Pierreclos, is a top class wine - flinty, smoky, reductive, with highlights of lemon, peach, galia melon, subtle tropical fruits, popcorn, minerals, cream, vanilla and warm spice. Lots of nuance and complexity. It's bright and crisp with zippy acidity, balanced and mouth filling, and with an extraordinarily long finish. Priced more than your normal Macon wines but this is worth every penny. Stunning.
